Instructions

  1. Prepare your apples: Wash and dry thoroughly. Insert sticks for easy dipping.
  2. Make the caramel: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir until sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it reaches the hard-crack stage (around 300°F or 149°C) on a candy thermometer.
  4. Add flavor: Once reached, remove from heat. Quickly stir in vanilla extract and optional food coloring.
  5. Dip the apples: Dip each apple into the hot caramel, allowing excess to drip off.
  6. Add toppings: Roll the still-wet caramel apple in your chosen toppings if desired.
