Description
Delightful and festive Spooky Candied Apples draped in sweet caramel and topped with creative decorations, perfect for Halloween.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Optional food coloring (black or orange)
- Toppings: crushed nuts, sprinkles, or chopped chocolate
Instructions
- Prepare your apples: Wash and dry thoroughly. Insert sticks for easy dipping.
- Make the caramel: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir until sugar dissolves completely.
- Allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it reaches the hard-crack stage (around 300°F or 149°C) on a candy thermometer.
- Add flavor: Once reached, remove from heat. Quickly stir in vanilla extract and optional food coloring.
- Dip the apples: Dip each apple into the hot caramel, allowing excess to drip off.
- Add toppings: Roll the still-wet caramel apple in your chosen toppings if desired.
- Cool: Place the dipped apples upright on waxed paper or a silicone baking mat to set.
Notes
Make sure apples are at room temperature for better caramel adherence. Work quickly as caramel thickens rapidly.
