Description

A tender turkey breast braised in a sweet and savory soy glaze with aromatic five-spice, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds turkey breast, skin-on
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons five-spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional)
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (such as cilantro or scallions)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, chicken broth, rice vinegar, garlic, five-spice powder, and ginger until well combined.
  2. Marinate the Turkey Breast: Place the turkey breast in a large resealable bag or a shallow dish, pouring the marinade over it. Seal or cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat Your Oven: When ready to cook, preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).
  4. Sear the Turkey Breast: In a large oven-proof skillet, heat sesame oil (if using) over medium-high heat. Sear the skin-side down for 4-5 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Add the Marinade: Flip the turkey and pour the reserved marinade over it.
  6. Braise the Meat: Cover with a lid or foil and transfer to the oven. Braise for about 2 hours, basting every 30 minutes until tender and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. Glaze and Finish: Remove cover in the last 20 minutes to caramelize the glaze.
  8. Rest and Serve: Let the turkey rest for 10 minutes before slicing and drizzle with extra glaze when plating.

Notes

For added depth, consider sautéing sliced mushrooms during braising. Always taste the sauce before serving and adjust as necessary.
