Ingredients

  • 1 pound smoked kielbasa or Polish sausage
  • 1 medium-sized green cabbage, chopped
  • 4 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 34 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Dried thyme and 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • Olive oil or butter for sautéing

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients and chop the cabbage and potatoes, and slice the kielbasa.
  2. Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet and sauté the sliced onions until translucent, then add minced garlic for 30 seconds.
  3. In the slow cooker, layer half of the cabbage and half of the potatoes, add sautéed onion and garlic, then pour in the broth.
  4. Layer the remaining cabbage, potatoes, and sliced kielbasa on top.
  5. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, thyme, and bay leaf, and gently stir if needed.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours. Stir before serving and adjust seasoning as needed.

Notes

Pairs well with crusty bread or a side salad. Can be frozen for up to three months.
