- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded white cheddar cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups milk
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp mustard powder
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Boil salted water and cook the pasta until al dente. Drain and drizzle with olive oil.
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and whisk in the flour to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream; stir until thickened (3-5 minutes).
- Remove from heat, add shredded white cheddar, and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, mustard powder, and nutmeg.
- Fold in the cooked pasta to coat in cheese sauce.
- Pour into a greased baking dish. Mix breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle over the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and bubbling.
Notes
For a healthier version, use whole-grain pasta and consider lower-fat cheese. Adding vegetables like broccoli can enhance nutrition and flavor.
