Description

A comforting dish that blends sweet, savory, and umami flavors, perfect for family dinners and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 preferred)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar (or maple syrup)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cups cooked rice or noodles (jasmine rice or cauliflower rice recommended)
  • Toppings: sesame seeds, avocado, fried egg, kimchi, etc.

Instructions

  1. Prepare rice or noodles according to package instructions; this will be the base.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and drizzle in sesame oil.
  3. Add ground beef and brown it, breaking apart with a spatula, for about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add minced garlic and ginger; cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  5. Pour in soy sauce and sprinkle brown sugar over the beef; mix well and let simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Incorporate chopped green onions just before serving.
  7. Serve over rice or noodles, topped with additional green onions, sesame seeds, or other favorites.

Notes

Cooking on medium-high heat helps achieve good caramelization on the beef. Adjust soy sauce and sugar to taste.
