Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 preferred)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 3 tbsp brown sugar (or maple syrup)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 cups cooked rice or noodles (jasmine rice or cauliflower rice recommended)
- Toppings: sesame seeds, avocado, fried egg, kimchi, etc.
Instructions
- Prepare rice or noodles according to package instructions; this will be the base.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and drizzle in sesame oil.
- Add ground beef and brown it, breaking apart with a spatula, for about 5-7 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and ginger; cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Pour in soy sauce and sprinkle brown sugar over the beef; mix well and let simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Incorporate chopped green onions just before serving.
- Serve over rice or noodles, topped with additional green onions, sesame seeds, or other favorites.
Notes
Cooking on medium-high heat helps achieve good caramelization on the beef. Adjust soy sauce and sugar to taste.
