Description
A comforting classic dish featuring seasoned beef patties simmered in rich gravy, perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (button or cremini)
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Fresh herbs (parsley or thyme)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onions, minced garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Form into thick, oval-shaped patties.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add a splash of oil, then sauté sliced mushrooms until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
- In the same skillet, add oil if necessary, and sear each patty on both sides until browned, approximately 4-5 minutes per side. Remove patties and set aside.
- Add beef broth and a bit of flour mixed with water to the skillet to create a roux. Stir until thickened, then add sautéed mushrooms. Adjust seasoning as needed.
- Return patties to the skillet, cover lightly with gravy, and simmer for about 10-15 minutes to meld flavors.
- Serve hot, drizzled with gravy alongside mashed potatoes or vegetables.
Notes
For added flavor, let the patties rest in the gravy for a few minutes before serving.
