Description
A quick and comforting dish featuring ground beef and fresh broccoli in a savory sauce, perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
- 2 cups fresh broccoli crowns, chopped
- 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil (or olive oil)
- 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
- Cooked rice or noodles, for serving
- Sesame seeds or sliced scallions, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Gather your ingredients: Dice the garlic and ginger finely, and chop the broccoli into bite-sized florets.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add sesame oil. Once hot, add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the garlic and ginger, cooking for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the chopped broccoli and a splash of water, cover to steam, and cook for 3-4 minutes until broccoli is tender-crisp.
- In a bowl, mix soy sauce with sugar (if desired) and pour it over the beef and broccoli, mixing to coat.
- Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes for flavors to meld.
- Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds or scallions as desired. Serve hot over rice or noodles.
Notes
Ensure not to overcook the broccoli; it should remain vibrant and crisp. Fresh garlic and ginger elevate the flavor significantly.
