Description

A delightful twist on a classic cranberry sauce featuring fresh cranberries, bourbon, and vanilla for a unique flavor experience during the holidays.

Ingredients

  • Fresh cranberries: 12 ounces (you can use frozen as a substitute)
  • Granulated sugar: 1 cup (or maple syrup for a more natural sweetness)
  • Bourbon: 1/3 cup (or apple juice for a non-alcoholic option)
  • Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon (or seeds of a vanilla bean)
  • Water: 1/2 cup
  • Cinnamon stick: 1 (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse fresh cranberries under cold water, picking out any soft or damaged ones.
  2. In a medium saucepan, mix cranberries, sugar, bourbon, water, and optional cinnamon stick over medium heat.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer, stirring occasionally for 10-15 minutes until berries burst and sauce thickens.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract or vanilla bean seeds.
  5. Allow to cool at room temperature and serve warm or chilled.

Notes

This sauce can be made days in advance and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
