Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, cornstarch, and salt until fully combined.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, add the dry mixture and gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until smooth.
  3. Heat the mixture until it begins to thicken, about 5-7 minutes, until it coats the back of a spoon.
  4. Beat the egg yolks in a bowl. Once thickened, temper the eggs by whisking in a small amount of the hot mixture, then gradually add this back into the saucepan.
  5. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the pudding into serving dishes or a large bowl, covering with plastic wrap pressed onto the surface to avoid a skin forming.
  7. Chill for at least two hours before serving, topped with whipped cream or chocolate shavings.
