Description
Delicious soft pretzels stuffed with gooey mozzarella cheese, perfect for gatherings or a cozy night in.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 ¼ cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup baking soda
- 8 ounces mozzarella cheese (cut into 1-ounce pieces)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
- Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the yeast and warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour, sugar, and salt, mix the dough until it comes together, and knead for about 5 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal portions.
- Roll each piece into a 24-inch rope, forming a U-shape and twist the ends together.
- Place a mozzarella piece in the center and finish shaping the pretzel.
- Boil 10 cups of water with baking soda. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush with an egg wash and sprinkle with sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Let cool before serving.
