Description
A comforting and hearty casserole featuring layers of ground beef, creamy potatoes, and melted cheese, perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 4 medium russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup cream or milk
- Fresh parsley or thyme, for garnish
- Optional: sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
- Add onions and garlic to the skillet. Sauté until fragrant and onions are translucent.
- Layer the potatoes in a greased casserole dish, followed by a layer of the beef mixture. If using mushrooms, layer those in as well.
- Sprinkle cheese on top of the beef layer, followed by more potatoes. Continue layering until all ingredients are used, finishing with cheese.
- Pour cream or milk evenly over the entire casserole, allowing it to seep through the layers.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil, and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let it rest for a few moments before serving to allow the casserole to set.
Notes
Feel free to add vegetables like spinach or bell peppers to boost nutrition. Use a mandolin slicer for even potato slices.
