Ingredients

  • Hearty bread (sourdough, whole grain, or brioche)
  • Sharp cheddar cheese
  • Crispy bacon (or turkey bacon)
  • Apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
  • Unsalted butter
  • Fresh herbs (optional, such as thyme or rosemary)

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  2. Add a little butter in the same skillet, slice apples thinly, and sauté until slightly soft and golden (about 2-3 minutes). Set aside.
  3. Assemble the sandwich with layers of cheddar cheese, bacon, and sautéed apples between two slices of bread.
  4. Melt more butter in the skillet and grill the sandwich over medium heat until golden brown (about 3-4 minutes), then flip and repeat.
  5. Allow the sandwich to rest for a minute before slicing to let the cheese settle.
